This collaboration between Chicano Studies 306: Barrio Studies and Radio Santa Ana gave students a solid foundation in community radio and news reporting, with a focus on production and editing skills, issues of equity in communications and urban development. Students produced news stories documenting the community movements that are growing in Santa Ana, California. Students became community reporters, learning about the significance of communities producing media, documenting stories in low- income neighborhoods of color. We hope this can set a model for future collaborations between the University and surrounding community.
